Mmmmmm...Bacon!

Well I felt bad that I didn't take any photos of breakfast the other day so we went for a cooked breakfast again this morning. My mum went for the bacon (mmmm...bacon) and eggs, dad went for the omelet again and I went for something a little different, deep fried savoury crepes. The thing that stood out the most was the lepinje (Serbian flatbread) which tasted amazing. This was probably due to the fact that we were having breakfast in a pizza restaurant and they baked the bread in the pizza oven. Delicious. You can see it in the top left corner of the plate in the picture below.

The bacon and eggs (apart from being a little brown around the edges) looked great and I stole a bit of bacon to prove to myself how good it was...:) The yolks were nice a runny and the white was nicely set.

The crepes were a little overdone and took about two bites to get to the filling which was ham and cheese. This was a nice flavour, but as you can see from the picture below, the presentation leaves a little to be desired.

That green stuff over the plate is not even fresh parsley, but dried. Again vegetables seem to be thrown on the plate as an afterthought which is becoming a bit of a theme in these meals. If I was serving this, I would slice them open on an angle and serve them with one half overlapping the other so it was almost standing off the plate and the customer could see what was inside.

I haven't really mentioned much about the weather yet, but since I arrived it hasn't really been much above the low 20s and last night we had a steady drizzle, so we decided to stay in the apartment and make dinner from the things we bought at the market. Also it doesn't hurt that there is a wine shop only two doors away that sells a great range of Serbian and other european wines.

During the day today, I got an invitation to go to my cousins house a cook with some truffels she has, but hasn't had a chance to use. There's no way I'm passing up that oportunity, so next post will be about what we cook. I can give you a quick sneak preview though and say that I just came back from another trip to the market and found some things I never thought I'd see. Check it out tomorrow.
